In the US, employment rates and educational achievement rates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) continue to fall behind compared to individual without disabilities. There have been some state and local agencies trying to address these issues through policy, advocacy, and programs. However, employment rates still fall behind. Employment is a critical part of community inclusion for people with I/DD. For youth, a smooth transition from education to employment is equally essential and a monumental milestone. Securing and maintaining employment helps many people to achieve independence in their communities, but there are often barriers to accessing meaningful and integrated employment for people with I/DD. This webinar will address employment challenges, deliver skill building activities, and provide tools and resources for searching and getting competitive employment for people with IDD.
